Open House - The Concierge Dwelling

Private, Probable, Ambiguous, Polyvalent...

The ‘Open House’ proposal sets out to demonstrate that discussions of dwellings are constantly shifting. The ambition was to design a system that provides an infinite number of possible arrangements, beginning with ideas of privacy and further articulated through innovative combinations that invite the user to participate. The project is responding to the main critique of the rigid host building, The Museum of the Home, by translating and implementing the reading of The Open Work by Umberto Eco. This elaborates on the issue of interpretive openness regarding the reading of art and space. Eco’s notion is an effort to comprehend modern artistic creations that can be made open by an author but further completed by the viewer.
